RENTERS INSURANCE

Lincolnwood Home Insurance
Information about Renters Insurance

Whether you live in Skokie, Morton Grove, or anywhere through the Chicago area, it's important to make sure your personal belongings are covered.

If you rent a house or apartment, you can get an affordable renters insurance policy that fits your needs by calling Statewide today.

Why do you need renters insurance?

  • An affordable way to cover your belongings

  • Helps pay for unexpected expenses

  • Covers other people's injuries at your place

  • Protects you against certain lawsuits

Without renters insurance, you'd have no protection/coverage for these situations. For example, if someone steals all your stuff, your landlord won't cover anything. Everything would be 100% on you.

That could cost tens of thousands of dollars, as the average renter has nearly $28,000 worth of belongings.

What does renters insurance cover?

Personal Possessions

Clothes, electronics, furniture, tools, and the appliances you purchased are covered (even if they're not in your place). They're covered against fire, theft/vandalism, tornadoes, water damage, and more. Keep in mind, you'll likely have to add extra coverage for jewelry or other expensive items. You can add these during your renters insurance quote or give us a call.

Example: Someone breaks into your car and steals your phone and a new TV you just bought. You will then get payment for what it costs to buy a new phone and TV, or these items' current value. There may be limitations for certain items. You're covered from power surges, fires, weather damage, theft/vandalism, water damage, and more.

Injuries and lawsuits against you

Your renters insurance policy covers others' medical bills if they're hurt at your place. Plus, it covers you if someone else sues you over their injuries or property damage. This coverage is technically called "personal liability."

Example 1: You accidentally damage gym equipment at your apartment, and now your complex wants to sue you for $5,000. Personal liability coverage would kick in and pay for your lawyer, court fees, and certain damages you have to pay, subject to your policy.

Example 2: One of your child's friends breaks her arm at your place, and their parents ask you to pay the medical bill. Medical payments will then cover the medical costs.

Temporary Living Expenses

If your place is damaged and you need somewhere to stay, your renters insurance kicks in. Renters pays for your hotel/living expenses and even pays you back for meals (above what you'd normally pay).

Example: Your place is damaged, and you can't stay there for two weeks. If you spend $750 eating out, renters insurance will cover food expenses over your usual costs and your rent/hotel expenses. It's important to keep your receipts.

What do you want your renters insurance to do?

You want it to protect you, right?  And not to cost an arm and three legs, correct?  And, if possible, you’d like it if you didn’t have to spend forever and a day finding it.  At least that’s what all the people who’ve purchased their renters insurance through us have told me.

We’ve been providing Chicago area renters insurance for many years. And for as long I’ve been advising people to get their renters’ insurance from an independent insurance agent. It seems I’m biased, at first blush. But I’m not.

Independent agents work with many insurance companies. That means we’re better equipped to match you with the perfect home insurance policy for you. Not only that, but we can do it fast and, more importantly, for less than regular (captive) agents can.

Up to 40% less.  On most policies, that’s hundreds of dollars in savings.

If you already know that you shouldn't buy your home insurance from the first insurance company or agency you come across, then you need to shop around.

If you’re like most people, however, you don’t know that independent insurance agents do the shopping around for you and that doesn’t cost you more.  On the contrary, most people save.
